3rd November 2011: Wheelchair for Chloe Lewis.
Recently, the RAOB Locomotive Lodge made a donation of over £1,500 to enable Chloe Lewis to buy a special lightweight wheelchair.
Chloe suffers from Spina Bifida. She can walk with difficulty using a walking frame but not very far and she really needs a wheelchair to get about. Chloe is 41/2 and she has just started going to Maple Grove Infants School. She already had a wheelchair but it was too heavy for her to move quickly and she was, in any case, growing out of it.
Without a suitable wheelchair, Chloe would not be able to attend normal school but she would have to attend a school for handicapped children. Her parents do not want that as she is very bright and independent and they fear that going to a school for handicapped children might hold her back.
With a new specially designed, lightweight wheelchair, she will be able to keep pace with the other children at school and it will help to give her confidence. It is designed so that it can be adjusted as she grows and it should last her for several years.
By running cake stalls and such, Chloe’s parents managed to raise £500 and the Buffs provided the rest.
Chloe and her family visited the lodge last Thursday to show the new wheelchair and Chloe demonstrated how well she can use it (like greased lightening). The accompanying photograph shows members of the lodge together with Chloe and her immediate family.

5th October 2011: Charitable Donation.
The officers and brethren of the RAOB Locomotive Lodge made a visit to the Springfield Residential Care Home, 63 The Causeway, March on the morning of Wednesday 5th October for the presentation of a cheque for £400.00.
The cheque was for their Entertainment Fund. The fund is to purchase items that will make life easier for the residents and their guests such as a mobile phone or a bed for visitors staying overnight.
One of the Locomotive Lodge members is Roy Bowman who, with his wife Rene, are both in residence at The Springfield and, after investigation, the lodge decided that this was a worthy cause for a charity donation. Richard Knock, supported by Brothers of the lodge, carried out the presentation.
The Manager, Wendy Wood, received the cheque with grateful thanks on behalf of all the residents.

8th September 2010: Brothers visit Real Dreams.
Story written by Bro John Wood KOM.
On Thursday 12 August, The RAOB Locomotive lodge presented the Real Dreams Respite Home with a cheque for £600. Afterwards there was a social evening and everyone enjoyed themselves. During the evening, photographs were taken and it was agreed to frame some of these to give to the home as a memento of the evening.
At 11:00 am Wednesday 8 September, a delegation of six Buffs went round to the respite home to present the framed photos to the respite home. We were met by Margaret Hill and her colleagues who showed us round their facilities. The home is exceedingly pleasantly situated with extensive views of the countryside and surrounded by well laid-out gardens where the residents can relax.
After that we were escorted to the kitchen where we were given cups of tea/coffee and fed with biscuits and chocolate buns. Goodbye diet!
After a pleasant chat about the needs of the home, we retired into the garden to make the presentation and take some photos of the event. One of the staff proved to be exceptionally camera-shy and it took a lot of effort to include her in the shots but we got one in the end!
Photographs from the visit can be seen by clicking here.
